Encore Success Story
Reducing Terabytes of Data to Manageable Levels
Problem: Encore’s client, an international law firm, was representing a large inter-city bus carrier in a breach of contract action against a bus manufacturer. Encore was called upon to reduce terabytes of data into a manageable amount by implementing culling strategies to minimize the data pool while producing only responsive materials and greatly reduce costs.
Solution: Encore was able to provide a culling approach that effectively reduced large volumes of information to a smaller population of accurate and potentially responsive documents for attorney review. Encore was able to successfully reduce the ultimate pool of data that was to be reviewed by 70 percent.
Knowledge: On this project, Encore was able to leverage the expertise of its attorney-consultants and their many years of knowledge in the legal and technical field. Encore attorneys read the pleading and the numerous related exhibits in an effort to understand the underlying litigation. They then were able to provide a highly consultative approach to reduce the total number of search terms. Encore was able to add similarly defined legal terms in order to come up with the most accurate and responsive list.
Technology: Encore utilized the dtSearch family of products to search the terabytes of data. This cutting-edge full-text search tool allowed Encore to easily query the data and ultimately produce only the data most likely to be responsive for attorney review.
Process: Because the best and most comprehensive set of keywords produces the best, most pertinent set of documents, Encore used Boolean searches to reduce and improve the keyword search list, consolidating it by over 50 percent. Encore then used the improved keyword search list and dtSerch tools to query the data and produce the documents.
